Day 7 Update

Hello everyone,

Day 4 - We had a full day at the hospitals in Belfast. Everyone learned a lot about health care and had a chance to compare their experiences with each other. Kristen and Dr. Mickus managed to get everyone their clinical destinations on time despite hectic Belfast traffic! We all returned home to Oakfield in Ballinderry only to be treated to a lovely home cooked meal by Roasleen. Later that evening we were unexpectidely treated to a preformance by a local storyteller and his daughter.

Day 5 - A teraful goodbye to our hosts Rosaleen and Johnny Faloon. A quick diversion to Armagh to see the beautiful St. Patrick's cathedral. We had a harrowing trip up Dawson Avenue (please ask us for details). On to the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh touring the indoor and outdoor museum (wonderful gift shop). We had a personally guided tour by Andy Hilliard of a peat bog, and a view of St. Patrick's Purgatory. The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting various family member's of Dr. Miskus' and a wild adventrue in sheep herding using a mini-van! On to Creevy Cottages through what Sarah claims is an "Irish Ghost Village." Entertainment by three local Irish lads were more than happy to entertain a group of American girls.

Day 6 - A nice tour and some serious shopping at Belleek Pottery. We drove to Kiltyclogher and had an exceptional afternoon with Mrs. McNulty and her friends from the Active Aging group. We all learned how to make a proper cup of Irish tea! A short visit to a visit to a public nursing home a visit with some of the residents before heading back to Ballyshannon for dinner. A short gathering at Dicey O'Rileys pub.

Day 7 - An outsatanding tour of a private nursing home in Convoy. This provided an opportnity for everyone to interact with older adults and learn more from the staff about long term care. On to Donegal town with a great lunch at the Old Castle pub. Kristen ( along with a guide) then lead us through her family castle, Donegal Castle, once owned by the O'Donnell clan. Serious shopping in Donegal ensued for the rest of the day.

The weather is still sunny and only a few drops of rain the entire trip!
