Day 4 Update

Greetings friends and family,

Here we are day 4 in beautiful northern Ireland. The weather has been spectacular, and the people even more so.

Saturday was fast paced and action packed. We managed to visit Newgrange, a neolithic tomb outside of Dublin. Dr. Mickus conquered her fear of small spaces and made it all the way into the tomb with the rest of the group. We then made a beeline for Belfast and were treated to an amazing black taxi tour by Paddy and Tom of the Belfast troubled areas. We learned a lot about the political and social challenges of the area. That evening we had a lovely dinner at O'Connors pub in Crumlin (almost crashed Peter's 40th birthday Party). We will explain when we get home. After dinner, we made our way to Oakfield Bed and Breakfast and haven fallen in love with our hosts, Rosaleen and her son Johnny.

On Sunday, we were picked up by our fabulous guide Tom who escorted us through and incredible tour of the Antrim Coast. We were able to see Carrickfergus Castle, Bushmills Wishkey Distillery, Dunluce Castle, and Giant's Causeway. Everyone in the group crossed the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge -- no small feat. We were treated to a wonderful evening meal back at Oakfield, prepared by our host, Johnny. We also organized a small birthday party for Kimmy. The evening concluded with the most amazing talent show that included whistling, singing, dancing, acrobatics, comedy, and eyeball tricks, and so much more. We are an entertaining bunch -- just ask us, or if you are lucky enough we will schedule an encore performance when we get home. #

Monday was a full day at the university of Ulster participating in classes and presentations. This involved learning about differences (and similarities!) in health care delivery and treatment. A big evening out with the UU students exploring Belfast at night.

Today (Tuesday) is the placement day and Dr. Mickus and Kristen have successfully delivered all of their McChickens (we will explain later) to the various hospitals and clinics throughout greater Belfast. Everyone is very excited about these clinical experiences.

We have decided to stay another night at Oakfield to reduce some of the logistical challenges related to switching accomodations this evening. We anticipate that the clinical placements will extend longer than originally thought -- some as late as 6:00pm.

Tonight, we plan to have a nice dinner and hear traditional music at a local pub. Tomorrow.. on to Omagh Ulster American Folk Park.

The following are short individual messages from Muckle's McChickens:
